How to Get There
From Yamagata City:
- Take a JR local train (55 mins) or Shinkansen (30 mins) to Oishida Station.
- From Oishida Station, turn left to find the bus stop for shuttle buses to Ginzan Onsen (45 mins).
Bus Tips for Ginzan Onsen:
- Cash only: JPY 1,000 per person
- Arrive 20 minutes early to secure a spot
- Limited schedule: Buses depart only once every 1–2 hours
Tips for Visiting Ginzan Onsen
- Bring cash – Most restaurants, cafes, and souvenir shops do not accept cards.
- Stay 3–4 hours if visiting for a day; longer if you plan to enjoy an onsen or ryokan stay.
- Visit at night for magical views – In winter, it gets dark around 5 PM, and the illuminated town feels like a fairy tale.
- Catch the last bus at 6:35 PM – Otherwise, your only option is a taxi, which is expensive.
