No trip to Guangzhou is complete without visiting Canton Tower, the city’s most iconic landmark and one of the must visit places in Guangzhou. Standing at 600 meters tall, it’s one of the tallest towers in the world and can be seen from almost anywhere in the city.
You can simply admire it from the riverside, but if you have extra time, head up to the observation deck for incredible panoramic views of Guangzhou. If you’re an adrenaline lover, there are also thrilling attractions like the Bubble Tram and Sky Drop.
Our favorite time to visit is in the evening when the tower lights up with colorful LED displays, making the skyline even more spectacular.

2. Huacheng Square (花城广场)
If you love modern city vibes, Huacheng Square will probably become one of your favorite places in Guangzhou.
This massive pedestrian-friendly square is surrounded by some of Guangzhou’s most famous landmarks, including the Guangzhou Opera House, Guangdong Museum, Guangzhou Library, and countless modern skyscrapers.
It’s also one of the city’s best shopping and dining areas. You’ll find huge shopping malls, trendy cafes, international restaurants, and plenty of open spaces where locals gather in the evening.

3. Shamian Island (沙面岛)
If someone showed you a photo of Shamian Island, you might never guess it’s in China.
Unlike the modern parts of Guangzhou, Shamian Island is filled with beautiful European-style buildings, tree-lined streets, charming cafes, and peaceful parks. This area was once home to foreign concessions during the 19th century, which explains its unique architecture.

It feels like a small underground city, making it a great place to escape the summer heat while shopping.

6. Shisanhang (十三行)
If you’re hunting for cheap fashion, Shisanhang is shopping heaven.
This wholesale fashion district is famous throughout China for offering incredibly affordable clothing, shoes, bags, and accessories. Many online sellers and boutique owners actually source their products here.
Even if you’re not buying in bulk, many stores also sell individual pieces at surprisingly low prices.
Just remember that most shops only accept mobile payments, so having Alipay or WeChat Pay set up beforehand will make your shopping experience much easier.
7. Yongqingfang (永庆坊)
Yongqingfang is one of the best examples of Guangzhou’s old-meets-new charm.
This beautifully restored historic neighborhood combines traditional Lingnan architecture with modern cafes, boutique shops, art galleries, and local snack stalls.

One of Guangzhou’s oldest shopping streets, Shangxiajiu offers a completely different atmosphere from Beijing Road.

One of our favorite parts of the hotel was definitely the swimming pools. Both the indoor and outdoor pools overlook Canton Tower, making it an incredible place for an evening swim while enjoying Guangzhou’s beautiful skyline.
The hotel also features a 24-hour fitness center and several in-house dining options, making it easy to relax after a full day of sightseeing.
